Self-care is having time for yourself.
And it is not as easy as it sounds. For working professionals, a job that requires 8 hours and 2 hours of commute is already too much. Half of their day is already taken, considering that they also need to prepare prior to their day-to-day agenda.
Last July 19th at Common Ground 8 Rockwell, various working professionals were treated with a free pampering session and skin consultation by Mary Kay as part of After Shift at Common Ground’s first ever seminar. One of Mary Kay’s Beauty Consultants and coach, Angela Bunyi-dela Cruz, taught the attendees about women empowerment and why self-care matters for working professionals.
As some may say that self-care is a luxury and the thought of treating yourself after hard day’s work seems like another guilt-trip when it shouldn’t be, the speaker explained self-care as an act of self-love. Self-care is often misconstrued as spending on material things and travelling, when in fact, self-care can be in any form that enables a person to feel empowered while keeping them grounded— that their problems are temporary and that they deserve a break. During the talk, the speaker highlighted the importance of time and how it plays a big factor to being healthy—both physically and mentally.
Self-care can manifest in many different things and the best way to go about it is understanding its importance and giving some time for yourself to grow, to reflect, and to love.
After Shift at Common Ground is Common Ground Works Philippines’ official networking and gathering for entrepreneurs, startups, and working professionals.
